Body & Hand Lotion
Instruction Sheet

California Candle Supply

Our Cocoa Butter Moisturizing Body & Hand Lotion is a rich, creamy, fragrance-free lotion formulated to help hydrate, soften, and condition the skin. Made with a blend of premium ingredients, including Cocoa Butter, Avocado Oil, Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil, Hyaluronic Acid, and Vitamins B5 & E, this luxurious lotion provides lasting moisturization while leaving skin feeling smooth and nourished.

Before starting: This cosmetic-grade body and hand lotion is ready to use as supplied. If customizing it, work with clean, suitable cosmetic equipment and packaging. Select only fragrance oils and colorants appropriate for the intended cosmetic application, and review their documentation before adding them.

Step 1: Prepare Your Materials

Clean and dry your work area and gather a precision scale, suitable cosmetic-grade mixing utensils, a clean mixing vessel, and compatible lotion containers. Use hygienic handling practices to minimize contamination. This is a ready-to-use lotion; no heating is required.

Step 2: Determine Your Fragrance Load

The lotion may be used fragrance-free or customized with 0–2% fragrance oil by finished-product weight. Review the current IFRA certificate for the selected fragrance and intended use (typically Category 5A for body lotion). Never exceed the applicable IFRA maximum, even if it is below 2%. For a 100 g finished batch at 1% fragrance, use 99 g lotion base and 1 g fragrance oil.

Step 3: Measure Out the Lotion Base

Place a clean mixing vessel on a precision scale and tare to zero. Weigh the lotion base according to your desired finished batch size, accounting for any fragrance or colorant additions. Measure ingredients by weight for consistent results.

Step 4: Measure & Add Fragrance Oil

Separately weigh the chosen skin-safe fragrance oil. Add it gradually to the lotion base, mixing gently and thoroughly. Not all fragrances will be compatible with the lotion. Do not assume that an IFRA-permitted fragrance concentration guarantees physical stability or skin compatibility.

Step 5: Add Color (Optional)

If desired, use a compatible liquid glycerin soap dye, beginning with approximately 1–3 drops per pound of lotion base. Add sparingly and mix thoroughly. This is a starting suggestion, not a guarantee of suitability: evaluate staining, color stability, packaging compatibility, and any applicable color-additive restrictions for cosmetic use.

Step 6: Mix, Evaluate & Package

Continue gentle mixing until the lotion appears uniform, avoiding excessive agitation and trapped air. Check for changes in viscosity, texture, color, separation, or odor. Transfer into clean, suitable cosmetic packaging and seal promptly. Perform small-batch compatibility, stability, and appropriate microbiological/preservative testing before larger production or sale.

Step 7: Label Your Finished Product

Identify all ingredients in the complete finished formula, including ingredients contributed by the base and any added fragrance or colorant. Cosmetic ingredient declarations generally use appropriate ingredient names in descending order of predominance, subject to applicable exceptions. California Candle Supply SDS Section 3 may provide CAS numbers and weight concentrations or ranges to help identify components, but SDS disclosures alone may not be a complete INCI/cosmetic ingredient declaration. Obtain any additional supplier information needed and verify the final ingredient order. Also evaluate net quantity, business identification, directions, warnings, and other required label statements for the applicable market.

Step 8: Verify Compliance & Manufacturer Responsibility

The crafter or finished-product manufacturer is responsible for assessing the safety, stability, preservation, compatibility, claims, ingredient declarations, packaging, labeling, and legal compliance of the finished product in every location and sales channel where it is manufactured, marketed, or sold. Requirements may vary by jurisdiction and marketplace. Modifying the base creates a new finished formulation requiring independent evaluation. California Candle Supply does not certify or guarantee the safety, stability, compatibility, or regulatory compliance of end-user-modified formulations. This instruction sheet is general educational guidance, not legal or regulatory certification.

Crafter's Notes

This fragrance-free lotion contains Cocoa Butter, Avocado Oil, Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil, Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin B5, Vitamin E, Allantoin, and Glycerin. Start with a small test batch when adding fragrance or color. Different fragrance oils may alter viscosity, appearance, preservation, and long-term stability; excessive mixing can introduce unwanted air. Store in tightly sealed packaging in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.

Review the current IFRA certificate for each fragrance. A permitted maximum is a limit, not a target. Test the actual finished product—including its packaging and dispenser—before wider production or sale. The manufacturer of the finished product remains responsible for applicable cosmetic safety, labeling, testing, and regulatory requirements.
